SAM RAINSY IN THE NETHERLANDS AND BELGIUM

Just after completing a three-week tour of the USA and Canada,
opposition leader Sam Rainsy is currently in The Netherlands where he
is meeting with Dutch government officials, Members of Parliament and
NGOs. He is also being welcomed by the Cambodian community in The
Netherlands who have come to greet him in The Hague and surrounding
cities.

On 11-13 June, Sam Rainsy will spend a day and a half in Brussels
where a reception in his honor will be hosted by the Cambodian
community in Belgium. He will also meet with MEP Cecilia Wikstrom who,
on behalf of many of her colleagues at the European Parliament, has
asked for his return to Cambodia to take part in the preparations for
the next elections in 2012 and 2013.

The message has been sent to the current Phnom Penh government that
without the participation of the opposition leader representing
Cambodia’s (by far) second largest political party, the forthcoming
elections will not be considered as fair and legitimate by the
international community, and any government stemming from such
elections would therefore be viewed as illegitimate and not truly
representing the free will of Cambodian people.
