Pnov Commune, Kompong Thom Province, is
located southwest of Cambodia, close to National Road n# 6 and 145 km from Phnom
Penh. It is made of 3 villages irrigated from East to West by the Chineth River.
Even though the 56km2 of flat lands seem
favorable to paddy fields, farmers only get one crop a year: the commune fields
are completely flooded during the rainy season and suffer total drought from
january to august. To survive, the 2 256 villagers get necessary additional
income thanks to palm trees (palm sugar making) and the nearby Chineth River (fishing and
fish salting).
