This is the first sister-city agreement signed by a Cambodian commune with any commune abroad since the February 3, 2002 commune council election. Bucy Saint Georges has a population of 12,000 inhabitants, 15 percent of whom are of Cambodian descent. Among the guests attending the signing ceremony, were the First Secretary of the Cambodian Embassy in Paris and three Cambodian Members of Parliament: Sam Rainsy, Tioulong Saumura and Yim Sovann. In the agreement, the two communes pledge to promote cultural exchanges and to foster frienship between their inhabitants. Mayor Hugues Rondeau announced that Bucy Saint Georges will help Kilometre Six build a new and modern commune office and assist his Cambodian counterpart in other fields. |
